There is some exciting news in Google Analytics some new features. One of the biggest new features is the new search engine optimization reports. They are available to everyone now that they are no longer beta. The question is will Google really help with your search engine optimization? You can find the reports in the new interface. This is an easy way to find new traffic sources. You do have to have a Google Webmaster Account.

 

1. Query Reports You will find the top 1000 queries in the query report. You will also find the number of clicks, impressions, the click through rate, and the average position. The average position is a little bit confusing. Allot of people have been using this new report and getting confused between Google Ranking and average position. Google does not display the page rank. It actually shows the impression position. The average position is the average for a particular search.

 

To find search engine optimization in the queries report use the advanced filter to seek out keyword queries that will send you significant traffic, and you rank for but not in #1, #2, or #3 position.

 

You shouldn’t be optimizing for all your keywords. Select your main keywords and then concentrate on the conversion rate of those keywords.

 

2. The New Landing Page Report This report will show you the best or your top landing pages for your website and the average search position,CTR and search results. We should mention that the average position is not as useful in this report, because you don’t know what the “exact” query was. You can use advanced filters to find your landing pages with high average position, high number of impressions, and low click through rate. Then you should look at the URLs for the title tags and the Meta descriptions. Determine if there is anywhere, you can improve the SERP results. Generally, there are reasons for a low CTR that is outside your control. This is especially true if the search engines aren’t showing search results that aren’t matching the user’s intent.

 

3. Geographical Summary This report shows the impressions and click through rate by country. This report is great when moving into a new location around the world and see how you can improve by country and for internation SEO. For example, If you have a local Australian business that wants to grow over seas to india then you will be able to see and compare your impressions and CTR and work out why your country stats are different.
